Izabella Marek is a rising senior at Green Hope High School whose record combines exceptional academic achievement, creativity, service and an unusually strong capacity for leadership. She has maintained a 4.0 unweighted GPA while taking nine AP courses and pursuing additional advanced coursework through the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, Wake Tech and NC State. She is also an accomplished visual artist, with work recognized in numerous regional and statewide competitions and exhibitions. Beyond the classroom, Izabella has devoted hundreds of hours to community service, including more than 160 hours with the Cary Arts Center, while also serving through Key Club, Learn To Be and other community organizations.

What makes Izabella an Emerging Star is what she has done with those talents to create opportunities for other students. As Co-President of Green Hope DECA, she helps lead more than 200 students and has developed professional-development and competition-preparation opportunities for her peers. When she saw that cost prevented some students from participating in DECA competitions, she created a nonprofit booster organization that raised more than $2,000 in its first three months to expand access. She also co-founded Green Hope’s Inter-Club Council, bringing together more than 100 student organizations and helping organize collaborative efforts that have reached hundreds of students. Her Dean of Students describes her as calm, humble, respected by her peers and someone who leads with integrity, compassion and purpose. That combination of achievement and service stands out: Izabella does not simply excel herself; she builds structures and opportunities that help others excel with her.
