During a career spanning nearly three decades, Drew Cook dedicated himself to helping students succeed at every level of public education. From classroom teacher and coach to principal and district leader, his influence has been felt in schools and communities throughout Wake County.

Drew began his career at Garner High School, where he served as a social studies teacher and basketball coach before advancing to assistant principal and principal. Throughout those years, he earned a reputation as a collaborative leader focused on creating opportunities for students and supporting educators in their work. His success as a school leader led to broader district responsibilities, including service as Senior Director of High School Programs and later Assistant Superintendent for Academics for Wake County Public Schools.

In district leadership roles, Drew helped guide instructional initiatives impacting nearly 200 schools and thousands of educators and students. Among his many accomplishments was helping lead the successful launch of the district’s Virtual Academy during the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring that students continued to have access to high-quality learning opportunities during an unprecedented period of disruption.

Colleagues throughout Wake County have long recognized Drew’s ability to bring people together, solve complex challenges, and keep student success at the center of decision-making. His leadership has helped shape educational opportunities for generations of students while strengthening the school system’s capacity to serve a rapidly growing community.

For his outstanding contributions to public education and his lasting impact on students, educators, and schools across Wake County, Drew Cook is inducted into the Wake County Public School System Hall of Fame.
