The National Assessment for Education Progress (NAEP) released 2015 scores for Math and Reading last week. NAEP is known as the nation’s report card. It samples students from across the nation to measure student achievement in subjects like math, reading, writing, and science. It is mandated by Congress and is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics.
Results show that in math, North Carolina fourth graders maintained a score four points greater than the national average in math. North Carolina eighth grade math scores were the same as the national average.
In reading, North Carolina fourth graders increased scores to five points greater than the national average. However, eighth grade reading scores fell to below the national average.
Nationally, average scores fell one to three points in all areas except fourth grade reading, where they remained the same.
