On Tuesday evening, the WCPSS Board of Education voted to raise the fee charged to students taking Driver Education from $55 to $65. The fee offsets the cost of Driver Education, and the $10 fee adjustment is allowed by state law (Senate Bill 744).
At risk in the state budget is Driver Education funding from the state. While the House budget continues to provide this funding, the Senate budget approach is not yet known.
[As background: in 2014, the adopted State budget provided non-recurring funding for Driver Education (Senate Bill 744). That provided funding for the 2014-2015 school year, but did not promise any further funding for school years beyond.]
