The number of schools with capped enrollment is recommended to grow from 11 to 17 for the 2016-2017 school year.
Schools are capped when they have “reached the maximum number of students they can effectively teach.” This includes using all the available permanent (brick and mortar) and temporary classroom spaces.
One school is recommended for enrollment cap removal (Davis Drive MS.). Ten schools will continue to have enrollment caps in place: Cary ES, Hodge Road ES, Holly Grove ES, Hunter ES, Mills Park ES, Walnut Creek ES, Mills Park MS, Enloe HS, Heritage HS, and Panther Creek HS.
The planning document provided to school board members shows the number of students currently capped out at these schools. For two schools on the list, well over 200 students are currently capped out: Mills Park MS (281) and Panther Creek HS (244).
Seven new enrollment caps are recommended by staff. Those caps would take place at Cedar Fork ES, Davis Drive ES, Fuquay-Varina ES, Wiley ES, Apex MS, Fuquay-Varina HS, and Garner HS.
The Facilities Committee will provide additional information and continue their discussion on December 9.
