At the February 3 WCPSS school board meeting, board members unanimously approved consolidating East Wake’s four individual high schools back into one, comprehensive East Wake High.
The move is the first official step in what will be the complete redesign of East Wake High.
At a prior Student Achievement Committee meeting (Jan. 12, 2015), staff shared research compiled on the effectiveness of the small school model implemented at East Wake High for the last ten years. The recommendation was then made then to consolidate the school. An additional recommendation was made to, “consider allowing popular programmatic themes to continue and seek community input about potential options for programming.”
In other words, the district will begin another round of work like that completed in the lead up to the Knightdale High redesign. The work will be K-12 in focus, and the East Wake community and business partners will be asked about priorities and desires for their schools.
Work has started on the East Wake High campus; a staff input meeting was held on Feb. 2nd. The first meeting of the East Wake Education Working Group will be held in the East Wake High cafeteria on February 18th. Meetings are open to the public.
